Welcome to

Rochester Area Preschool!

A fun, creative and safe learning environment for children ages 2.5 to 5.

Dear Rochester Area Preschool Families,

We hope you are healthy and managing as best as you can during this difficult time. Unfortunately, we have some sad news to share. The Session (ruling body) of Gates Presbyterian Church recently met and a decision was made that due to the pandemic and the trend in low enrollment, Rochester Area Preschool will not be opening for the school year and will be closing it’s doors after 49 years of service to our community.

We want to thank our families for being so patient and understanding as we have tried to navigate through these last six months. We were very hopeful we would be able to open and we are incredibly disappointed. We will be working out the details to issue refund checks as soon as possible and will do our best to answer any other individual questions as well.

Please keep our fabulous teachers Mrs. C, Mrs. Short, and Mrs. Benedetto in your thoughts as they have passed on a love of learning and shared so much joy with our students in their many, many, years as RAP teachers. We will be planning a celebration of both our teachers and RAP’s long history as soon as we are able.

In closing, we would like to share a special message from Mrs. C: “Thank you for all of your years of love and support. The past 28 have been wonderful.”

Sincerely,

Rochester Area Preschool Board of Directors

Our Roots

What We’re All About

Rochester Area Preschool opened its doors in 1970 to provide a place for three, four, and five year olds of various backgrounds to grow with one another in an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding, where each child is encouraged to discover him or herself as a person of infinite worth.

Our teachers have been teaching at RAP for a combined 30 plus years.  They demonstrate important qualities including friendliness, honesty, patience, voice modulation, dependability, integrity, energy, and creativity. Our staff shows a pure love of children.

While RAP is housed in the Gates Presbyterian Church building, it is interfaith and nonsectarian.  It has a separate Board of Directors which meets monthly to set policy and oversee that the school is functioning smoothly.  This volunteer board is comprised of church and community members, usually parents who have (had) children at RAP. Although each board position has a specific job description, any board member would be happy to answer questions or hear concerns.

Most importantly, we are a family at RAP, and it is our belief that….

YOUNG CHILDREN LEARN THROUGH PLAY.

We participate in the United Way Donor Designation Program. Please use ID #1614 for Rochester Area Preschool and check with your place of employment to see if they match donations!

3 & 4 Year Old Classes

What will my child be doing?

From language and literacy development to social skills and creative expression, the children at Rochester Area Preschool are constantly being exposed to new activities and environments in which to thrive. We build on the strengths and interests of each child to help build a solid foundation where they can develop their futures.

The 4 year old class meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9-11:30. The 3 year old class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-11:30.

A typical day includes circle time (music), free play with small group instruction, an art project, playtime in the big room, calendar, and snack.

Our program encourages social and emotional development, as well as fine
and gross motor development. The 4 year old class also gives the students academic exposure for pre-reading and pre-writing development.

Annually, we have 2 field trips and 2 evening activities so that parents
can be more involved.

Class size for both morning classes is 21 students.  One teacher, two assistants.

Our Classrooms

Welcoming Environment for Learning Through Play

The classrooms at Rochester Area Preschool were set up with our children’s needs in mind: to mature and develop in a safe yet stimulating environment. Take a look below to get a glimpse at our multiple centers for learning. Each day, students are divided into small groups and rotate through the main classroom, the sunshine room, and the big room (gross motor skills). Each space allows students time to interact with their peers, play alone, and have individual instruction time with the teacher.

TESTIMONIALS

"Both of my daughters have attended RAP and have been students in the 3s, 4s and Plus class. As a teacher I highly recommend this preschool. The teachers show a true love for their job and the children, the curriculum is high quality and in line with kindergarten preparedness. My girls have learned so many new skills at RAP. Not just the ABC's and how to write their names, but social skills as well like how to share, ask for help, wait your turn, how to be compassionate, as so much more. My youngest has grown by leaps and bounds since she started at RAP. She has blossomed from a shy, scared kid who would barely talk above a whisper into a brave, confident smart girl who loves to share her ideas and help others. Thank you RAP for doing such a great job with our kids!!!"

Karen Hanscom Hale, parent of two RAP graduates, 2014

"We love RAP. My husband and I both attended RAP for preschool. We sent both of our boys for 3 & 4 yr old preschool. The teachers are wonderful and so much thought is put into the activities to develop fine motor skills, gross motor skills, learning to follow directions and how to be in a classroom. My nieces and nephews have also attended RAP and had positive experiences. I would highly recommend sending your child to Rochester Area Preschool."
